“Leyla, from earlier experiences, I should know that you attract all sorts of people, but that is strange, to be sure.”
“What do you mean, Maven?” the girl asked her friend, who was looking at her skeptically.
“You know what I mean!”
She smiled lightly and threw a look at the friends she made. Nothing extraordinary, really.
“You think it strange for a magician like me to have friends like magicians and Denor?”
“Oh, Leyla, don’t play dumb!”
“But they’re all human. Well, mostly. But no dwarf or wolf.”
“Don’t lie, girl! These are also your friends.”
“Well, so what?”
“Leyla, that is strange enough.”
“Oh, bother! Maven! She is a thief. What’s strange about that?”
“I don’t mean Eriee!”
“Well, speak, dear Denor and friend.” But by now, she couldn’t hide the grin on her face. Her friend shook his head and then asked, almost exasperated:
“How, how in the world and of all possibilities, did you manage to befriend a bunch of pirates?”
There was only a hearty laugh as an answer.
Watch Switch
“Oi, Rico.”
“What is it?”
“You don’t have watch this night, don’t you?”
“Yeah. What about it, Navi?”
“Do you mind if we switch?”
“Well…”
“Rico, please. Let’s switch.”
“I don’t know. Did you ask Teraldin?”
“He said to ask you.”
“Man! That’s so him! Well, I have a question before I decide: What’s your reason?”
“Shit. I really hoped you wouldn’t ask this.”
“I know. So?”
“Shit, Rico, do I have to answer this?”
“Of course. You should think of it well, my decision depends on it.”
“Gnnn… Rico!”
“No chance without it.”
“You’re the youngest but the meanest of all!”
“Thanks, but I still want your answer.”
“Hm… well… you know… I… and… mah, you know!”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Stop grinning like that! I have my reasons! That enough?”
“That will do. Alright, I’ll take your shift, Navi, but you owe me one. Teraldin already gave his consent, hasn’t he? He knows me far too well. Well, go ahead Navi. I wish you luck.”
“Rico, you…”
“It is a special day for him, after all. Now get lost already.”
“Thanks, Rico.”
And Navi vanished under deck with quite a red head and Rico smiled. Teraldin approached and leaned next to him against the rails.
“It’s no good eavesdropping on other people’s conversation, you know.”
“Really, you like to meddle and torture poor men, do you?”
“Of course, Cap.” He grinned.
“I think that’s what I love about you.” Teraldin said and kissed Rico on his cheek.
“Since I have night shift now, you have to wait.”
“It’s not your shift yet.”
And with a grin Teraldin caught a chuckling Rico in his embrace. The other met him with a kiss.
